Thousands of students will take to the streets against the climate crisis

Kamil Kuchta 14. March 2019

On Friday (March 15), the International Youth Climate Strike will take place in seventeen Polish cities. Last Friday, during the German edition of the strike, nearly 10,000 students left the lessons. students. “Politicians and large corporations have a big impact on the condition of our planet. They have to face the truth.” – the organizers of the protest proclaimed. The school strike is an initiative of a young Swedish activist – Greta Thunberg.

The strikes are getting bigger and bigger. For example, Polish students have announced that if necessary, the demonstrations will take place every month. Similarly in Belgium, where 35,000 students took part in only one of several strikes. In their opinion, the public is still unaware of the risks associated with climate change. That is why the topic must be heard even louder in the public space and in the media.

It all started with the manifesto of a fifteen-year-old girl. In the summer of 2018, Sweden struggled with a series of powerful fires that burned 25,000. hectares of forest. “Climate change is something real and no country is immune to natural disasters,” said Christos Stylianides, EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management. Soon after, a young activist, Greta Thunberg, instead of going to school, stood under the Riksdag, the Swedish parliament. In this way she started the first school strike. For several weeks, every Friday she sat there alone with the banner “Skolstrejk för klimatet” (School strike for the climate). The media became interested in the matter and soon demonstrations appeared in other countries.

You are still talking about green, sustainable development, just because you are afraid of losing popularity! You say that you love your children above all else. And at the same time you steal their future. I do not care about popularity. I am interested in climate justice and a living planet – said Greta Thunberg during her speech.

On March 15, tens of thousands of students will take to the streets of the largest cities in the world. Event is so huge that teachers will not punish them for truancy…
