Quadrant House of Robert Konieczny has a mobile terrace. Depending on the needs, it gives residents access to the sun or provides shade. The ideas of this Polish architect are already mentioned in the international media.
Robert Konieczny from KWK Promes is currently the most titled and recognizable Polish architect. He has been nominated ten times for the prestigious European Foundation Award Mies van der Rohe. In 2016, as the first Pole, he won the prize for the Best World Building during the World Architecture Festival in Szczecin. Recently, his Home After Road also received the German Design Award 2019. His latest project also aroused interest around the world. The Quadrant House was recently built in Warsaw’s Wilanów. What is its uniqueness?
The inspiration for creating this project was quite peculiar customer’s wish. He wanted his house to somehow “follow the sun”. In response, the architect designed a mobile covered terrace in the building, which can change its position by 90 degrees. Its name comes from the quadrant used by astronomers to locate the position of the stars. Thanks to this, depending on the needs, the room gives residents access to natural light or cuts them off. The terrace moves along the tracks between the living room and the home spa, shading and extending these spaces. The whole system works automatically, based on special sensors, but you can also control it manually.
Konieczny proposed one more unusual solution. In his project, he gave up the windows from the street side, which provides residents with 100 percent. privacy.
